Walter Caspar Többens was a German contractor who estblished workshops in the Ghetto from October 1941 onward. Because of his excellent contacts with the SS, he was able to exploit a large and underpaid labor force, rapidly becoming the main Ghetto employer. As the time for the Ghetto's final liquidation he was nominated commisaire for the evacuation of the establishement of the shops to the working camps in the area of Sublin. Többens attempted to move his machines and personnel to Poniatowa Camp. He also tried to save Jews, not so much out of humanitarian feelings as to preserve his interests.
Walter Caspar Többens was tried in Bremen on 30June 1949. He was sentenced to ten years' emprisonment and died on November 16, 1954.
